Picks one player at random and exclusively hunts their sanity, not the group average. Someone at 50% getting hunted while everyone else is at 100%? Banshee. Female-only ghost, so a male name on the board rules it out before you even step inside.

Key Tools

Parabolic Mic is your best friend here. Listen for a high-pitched siren scream, it has a 33% chance of triggering, so sweep at least 3-5 times before writing it off. Place a crucifix and motion sensor far from the ghost room. Two sensor triggers 5-6 seconds apart with no visible event is a strong Banshee signal.

How to Confirm

Watch who the ghost goes after in multiplayer. It will ignore closer players and beeline for its target every time. Target dies or leaves the building and it picks a new one.

Watch Out For

Singing events happen with other ghosts too. The siren scream on the Parabolic is the real tell, not just that it sang.

💡 Tip

On Nightmare+, Banshees can change their favourite room, so don't assume the ghost room is locked in. Solo play makes target behavior impossible to test, so lean hard on the Parabolic and evidence.

Dayan

STALKER

Behavior & Unique Ability

Female-only ghost, male name on the board is an instant rule-out from the van. Speed is entirely controlled by what the nearest player is doing. Stand still and it crawls at 1.2m/s. Move and it surges to 2.25m/s. No LoS speed up. Hunt threshold is 65% if players nearby are moving, 45% if they're standing still.

Key Tools

Motion sensors at the 10m mark help standardize distance testing. Salt Tier III gives you breathing room to test movement states safely.

How to Confirm

One player stays completely still, another walks near the ghost. Speed jumps on movement and drops on stillness. Speed only reacts to the single nearest player, not the group, so positioning matters. No players within 10m at all and it defaults to regular 1.7m/s.

Watch Out For

Every ghost speeds up with LoS. Dayan's tell is movement-state within 10m, not line of sight. Know the difference before you call it.

💡 Tip

Eyeballing 10m is a nightmare. Drop motion sensors to nail the distance properly.

Demon

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hunts at a whopping 70% sanity normally and can trigger at 100% with its special ability. If a hunt starts the moment you walk through the front door, that's a Demon, no questions asked. Crucifix range gets a 50% bonus, which sounds helpful until you realise it also means it can burn crucifixes from further away.

Key Tools

Two crucifix confirmation methods: place a motion sensor further from the crucifix than usual, if it burns with the ghost far away, suspect Demon. Or if the crucifix burns once and burns again within 20 seconds, that's a 100% confirm. Incense only suppresses it for 1-1.5 minutes versus the usual 1.5, and it can hunt just 20-25 seconds after a crucifix use instead of 25. Higher chance of drawing the death card from tarot cards too.

How to Confirm

Time your incense carefully, if it hunts in under 90 seconds after a smudge, Demon rises sharply. Two crucifix burns within 20 seconds is the cleanest confirm in the game.

Watch Out For

Cursed hunts bypass incense prevention entirely. Don't blame Demon for a curse-chain hunt.

💡 Tip

Track sanity on the truck monitor rather than guessing. The "any sanity" hunts are rare, not constant, so don't panic early without data to back it up.

Deogen
DOTSWRTSB
SPECIALIZED

Behavior & Unique Ability

Always knows exactly where you are. Hiding does nothing. Blazes at 3m/s when it can't see you, then crawls at 0.4m/s once it closes in, the slowest ghost in the game up close. Only available once you hit player level 30+.

Key Tools

Spirit Box: listen for the "Deo growl," a heavy breathing sound with a 33% chance of triggering, but only if you're within 1m of the ghost. It always targets the nearest player when a hunt kicks off.

How to Confirm

Hard-tracks you at full speed then dramatically slows as it closes in. That contrast is unmistakable once you've seen it. Looping furniture is your survival plan, not hiding.

Watch Out For

Don't mix this up with Moroi or Revenant speed spikes. The dramatic slow-down specifically at close range is Deogen's thing and nothing else does it.

💡 Tip

You CAN outrun a Deogen up close, loop furniture and use that 0.4m/s crawl against it. The approach speed is the real danger, not the close-range phase.

Gallu

AGGRESSOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Cycles through three states in order: Normal (1.7m/s, hunts at 50%), Enraged (1.9m/s, hunts at 60%), then Weakened (1.36m/s, hunts at 40%), then back to Normal. Always starts Normal. Any protective gear triggered, crucifix burned, salt disturbed, room smudged, flips it Enraged immediately. Hunt ends, it drops to Weakened. Trigger protection again and the whole cycle restarts.

Key Tools

Enraged Gallus ignore salt just like a Wraith. Double salt pile test: two piles with motion sensors a few metres apart. Sensor fires on the second pile but no footprint = confirmed Gallu. Crucifix range drops 2m when Enraged, increases 1m when Weakened.

How to Confirm

Run a salt choke test and watch how protective gear changes its behavior. Wraith always ignores salt. Gallu only ignores it when Enraged, so trigger the state deliberately and compare.

Watch Out For

Salt avoidance can just be pathing RNG. Use long Tier II/III lines in tight doorways so there's no way around it.

💡 Tip

Gallu punishes careless protection gear use. Using incense or a crucifix flips it Enraged instantly. Plan what you're using and when rather than throwing gear around on instinct.

Goryo
DOTSEMF 5UV
DECEPTIVE

Behavior & Unique Ability

DOTS only shows on camera, never in person. Only enters a DOTS state when no players are in the same room. Sticks close to its favourite room, if the ghost is wandering far, it's not a Goryo. Can't change favourite rooms on Professional difficulty and above. DOTS is forced evidence on Nightmare+.

How to Confirm

Have a player hold a video camera just outside the favourite room. DOTS ghost visible on camera but nothing in person = confirmed. Set up a stationary camera and watch from the truck for cleaner results.

Watch Out For

No Ghost Orbs on this one. Confirm the room using temps and interaction clustering instead. And remember, you need to be OUT of the room for DOTS to even show up.

💡 Tip

Two DOTS projectors opposite each other gives you maximum coverage, especially with Tier III. Night vision on the camera makes a huge difference for spotting the projection.

Hantu
ORBUVFRZ
ENVIRONMENTAL MANIPULATOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

No LoS speed up. Ranges from 1.4m/s in warm rooms up to 2.7m/s in cold, not instant, it ramps as it moves through temperature zones. Freezing temps is forced evidence on Nightmare+, so if your shown evidence doesn't include freezing, rule Hantu out. Never turns the breaker on. About twice as likely to turn the breaker off compared to other ghosts.

How to Confirm

During a hunt, look for cold breath coming from the ghost. It shows in any room regardless of temperature, but only works when the breaker is OFF. Cold breath on a Hantu is an instant confirm, no other evidence needed.

Watch Out For

Cold breath during hunts is a behavioral tell, not freezing evidence. They're completely different things and plenty of players mix them up.

💡 Tip

Leave the breaker off intentionally if you suspect a Hantu. Cold breath only shows without power, and it's the cleanest single-observation confirm this ghost has.

Jinn
EMF 5UVFRZ
ENVIRONMENTAL MANIPULATOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hits 2.5m/s in a hunt when the breaker is on and it has LoS on you, almost as fast as a Revenant. But at 3m away it slows back to regular speed, and with the breaker off it acts like a completely normal ghost. Never turns the fuse box off, only lights. With breaker on, it can also drain a nearby player's sanity by 25%, generating EMF 2 or 5 at the breaker.

Key Tools

Leave an EMF reader on top of the breaker. A reading with no actual breaker flip = Jinn interacted with it. That's a handy low-effort confirm.

How to Confirm

Watch the speed spike when it spots you with the breaker on. It's far more sudden and dramatic than regular LoS acceleration. Sanity drops with no explanation near the breaker = supporting signal.

Watch Out For

If a teammate flips the breaker, your "never turns it off" test is cooked. Lock down roles before running this.

💡 Tip

Suspect Jinn? Keep the breaker ON to bait the speed ability, then kill it once you've confirmed. Breaker off = toothless Jinn.

Mare

ENVIRONMENTAL MANIPULATOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hunts at 40% sanity with lights on, 60% with lights off. Loves the dark, hates light, cannot turn any light on, not even lamps (though it can still hit TVs). Roams toward dark rooms and away from lit ones. Higher chance of bulb-breaking events.

How to Confirm

Turn the ghost room light on and keep connecting rooms dark. Motion sensor or salt at the exit, if it triggers, Mare is likely since they always leave lit rooms. The cleanest confirm: turn a light on during a manifestation event. If it immediately flicks off, that's a 100% Mare. Any ghost that turns a light ON = instant rule-out.

Watch Out For

Plenty of ghosts flip lights. Mare's tell is a repeated, consistent pattern. One flip means nothing. Also note: a broken bulb with the switch still on still counts as "lights on" for Mare's hunt threshold.

💡 Tip

Keep the ghost room lights ON to push its hunt threshold down to 40% and buy yourself more investigation time. When it keeps turning the same light off 2-3 times in a row right after you flip it, that's your tell.

Moroi

Behavior & Unique Ability

Officially the fastest ghost in the game at peak. Starts at 1.5m/s when group sanity is above 50%, scales to 2.25m/s at 0% sanity, and with LoS can hit 3.1m/s. Spirit Box is forced evidence on Nightmare+. Using the Spirit Box or Parabolic Mic can trigger a curse, doubling passive sanity drain even without a proper response from the box.

How to Confirm

Pop sanity pills mid-hunt and listen. If the ghost audibly slows down, that's a confirmed Moroi. Incense stun also lasts 7.5 seconds instead of the usual 6, which you can time. Sanity cratering fast after Spirit Box or Parabolic use is another signal.

Watch Out For

Speed scaling looks a lot like LoS acceleration. Break LoS repeatedly and compare across different sanity levels to tell them apart.

💡 Tip

Moroi punishes low sanity harder than anything else in the game. Pop meds early and don't let sanity slide, the lower it gets, the scarier this ghost becomes.

Myling

Behavior & Unique Ability

Whisper-quiet during hunts, footsteps only audible at 12m versus the usual 20m. Meanwhile it's chatty as anything on the Parabolic Mic outside of hunts. Also has a higher chance of performing singing events.

How to Confirm

The flashlight test: place a flashlight on the floor in front of you during a hunt. It flickers when the ghost is within 10m. If you hear footsteps but the flashlight isn't flickering yet, that rules out Myling. Footsteps and flickering almost simultaneously = confirmed. Hearing thrown items during a hunt with no footsteps at all is another strong indicator.

Watch Out For

Acoustics vary by floor. Get some time on the same map before you call Myling purely on footstep audibility, environment matters a lot here.

💡 Tip

Myling hunts creep up on you fast. You'll hear the heartbeat long before the footsteps arrive. Multi-floor maps are especially brutal, stay sharp.

Obake

Behavior & Unique Ability

Shapeshifter. Can switch ghost models during a hunt, that's a confirmed Obake, though check for orbs to rule out Mimic. UV is forced evidence on Nightmare+. Makes UV prints disappear faster than normal, so scan constantly. Can leave a six-finger handprint (only ghost that does this outside of Mimic copying it) and double fingerprints on light switches.

How to Confirm

Scan with UV immediately after every hunt, prints vanish quicker than usual so speed matters. Six-finger handprint or double switch print = instant confirm. Shapeshifts happen at specific flicker counts during hunts. No shapeshift after two full hunts means you can safely rule it out.

Watch Out For

Event interactions don't always leave prints. Use normal door touches for reliable UV evidence, not event-based interactions.

💡 Tip

Inconsistent UV, sometimes there, sometimes not, is itself the Obake tell. That 25% print-hiding chance creates exactly that pattern.

Obambo
WRTUVDOTS
AGGRESSOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Two states, flipping every 2 minutes: Calm (1.4m/s, hunts at 10% sanity) and Aggressive (1.9m/s, hunts at 65% sanity). Always starts Calm. The wild part, it can switch states mid-hunt. If you're in a hunt and the ghost suddenly speeds up or slows down for no reason, that's your tell right there.

How to Confirm

At higher sanity it can only hunt while Aggressive, so all early-game hunts start fast. Ghost starting every hunt at speed when sanity is still high = lean Obambo. Watch for the in-hunt speed flip, no other ghost does that.

Watch Out For

Easy to mistake for The Twins on speed alone since their base speeds are close. Key difference: Twins is 50/50 which speed you get each hunt. Obambo at higher sanity always starts fast because it can only hunt Aggressive.
Oni
DOTSEMF 5FRZ
AGGRESSOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Very active near players and loves putting on a show. Sanity drain during ghost events is boosted by 20% when it happens directly in front of you. During manifestation events, double the chance of appearing in full ghost form versus any other ghost. Cannot do the airball ghost event, that floating fogball with the hiss and no footsteps? Instant Oni rule-out.

How to Confirm

Fast blink speed during hunts makes it very visible, contrast with Phantom's slow blink where it seems to disappear. High activity near players early in the game plus no airballs is a strong Oni lean.

Watch Out For

Airball events look a bit like freezing breath but they float toward you with a hiss and no footsteps. Don't confuse the two. Oni literally cannot produce an airball.

💡 Tip

Oni is one of the easier ghosts to visually ID, it practically wants you to see it. Use that visibility to your advantage during hunts.

Onryo
ORBFRZSB
ENVIRONMENTAL MANIPULATOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hunts at 60% sanity normally, but can hunt at any sanity after blowing out 3 firelights regardless of your health. Prioritises extinguishing flames over triggering a crucifix, meaning a crucifix next to a lit candle can get completely ignored. And "any fire" counts: lit stove, map-design candles, even the igniter or matchbox in your hand all block a hunt.

How to Confirm

The Onryo test: place a crucifix in the room with 3 firelights around it. Third light blows out, hunt starts within 6 seconds, crucifix burns = confirmed Onryo. Run this above 50% sanity so a random hunt doesn't skew it. Hunt starting while any firelight is still lit = instant rule-out.

Watch Out For

Other ghosts blow out firelights too. You need the hunt timing AND the flame correlation together, not a single blowout on its own.

💡 Tip

Pack extra firelights. At $15 a pop they're basically free, they protect your sanity, and they're your primary Onryo ID tool all at once.

Phantom
DOTSUVSB
SPECIALIZED

Behavior & Unique Ability

Staring at it drains your sanity at 0.5% per second within heartbeat range. Never appears in photos, not during events, not during hunts, not on a DOTS projector shot. Also produces zero static or glitch effect in ghost photos, which every other ghost does. Slow blink speed during hunts makes it harder to track visually. Can roam to random players, generating EMF 2 at the destination.

How to Confirm

Take a photo during a manifestation or hunt. No ghost visible AND no static = Phantom confirmed. You can also trail salt or motion sensors toward a player in a far room, Phantom roaming to that player generates EMF 2 at the end of the path.

Watch Out For

Camera interference during hunts happens with every ghost. Focus on the "no ghost AND no static" combo in photos, not just a scuffed image.

💡 Tip

Don't stare at manifestations if you're suspecting a Phantom. Your sanity will crater fast. The sanity drain at close range is real but subtle enough that most players don't rely on it as a primary confirm.

Poltergeist

Behavior & Unique Ability

Only ghost that throws multiple objects at once with actual force. Throws every 0.5 seconds during hunts. The "polty pile" test is the go-to: dump a bunch of objects in one pile and if they explode everywhere on a ghost interaction, that's a confirmed Poltergeist. Each item thrown near a player during the pile explosion drains 2% sanity. Important note: any ghost can levitate objects now, levitation alone means nothing. It's the forceful throwing that's exclusive.

How to Confirm

Pile objects in the ghost room and watch for the explosion. You can also lay items in a line, Poltergeist entering a hunt will launch every single one. EMF 2 generates when it throws, EMF 3 at the thrown objects themselves.

Watch Out For

Twins can produce what feels like two event sources in different areas. Poltergeist throws multiple things from the same location. Check where the action is coming from.
Raiju
DOTSEMF 5ORB
STALKER

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hits 2.5m/s in a hunt when player-carried electronics are active nearby. Can hunt at 60% sanity when there's a lot of gear turned on. Electronic interaction range is 15m versus every other ghost's 10m. Important: this does NOT apply to map electronics like TVs, house lights or the telephone, only player equipment.

Key Tools

The loudest heartbeat in the game. Raiju is the only ghost that dramatically amplifies your heartbeat sound during hunts and events, most experienced players use that to ID it before anything else. Flashlight on/off test while looping during a hunt is a known method too.

How to Confirm

Listen for the abnormally loud heartbeat when it's nearby. Watch the speed jump when you're holding active electronics versus when they're off. The gap is very obvious.

Watch Out For

Generic interference happens with every ghost. Raiju's tells are the larger 15m radius, the speed boost near your gear, and that heartbeat volume, not just "it messed with the TV."

💡 Tip

Turn off unnecessary electronics during hunts if you suspect Raiju. Use placed equipment over handheld to keep the speed boost from stacking against you.

Revenant

Behavior & Unique Ability

1m/s when it can't detect you. The moment it spots you, immediately slams to 3m/s, no ramp-up, just instant. That's three times regular ghost speed and it doesn't get faster the longer you stay in view. When you break LoS it stops at the last place it saw you and resets. That stop is the only reason this ghost is survivable.

How to Confirm

Let it detect you briefly, then break LoS and listen to the dramatic slowdown. That contrast between the lunge and the crawl is unmistakable once you've felt it. Tier 3 sanity pills temporarily match its sprint speed if you need to make a run for it.

Watch Out For

Regular LoS acceleration is gradual and builds over time. Revenant's is immediate and tied to detection state, not distance or time. Very different feel once you know what to look for.

💡 Tip

Hiding is THE counter. Revenant crawls at 1m/s when it can't see you, that's slower than you walk. NEVER try to outrun one in the open.

Shade

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hunts at 30-35% sanity, much lower than most ghosts, so you've got more time than you think. Won't perform ghost events AND won't hunt while you're in the same room. Ghost events almost always appear in shadow form. If you use a summoning circle and it shows only a shadow, that's very Shade-like behavior.

How to Confirm

Stay in the favourite room for a while, then leave. Activity spiking immediately after you walk out is a classic Shade tell. Crucifix burning in the same room as you also rules it out, Shade literally cannot hunt while you're there. Note: open-plan areas like a combined kitchen/dining count as separate rooms even without a dividing wall, so don't rule it out too fast in those layouts.

Watch Out For

Poor room identification makes any ghost look inactive. Confirm the favourite room with temps and interaction clustering before drawing conclusions.

💡 Tip

Shade is the safest ghost to investigate in person, it literally cannot hunt you in its own room. Set up tools, park yourself in there, and enjoy the peace while you gather evidence.

Spirit

Behavior & Unique Ability

No special abilities whatsoever, the default ghost. Its one standout trait is that incense suppresses its hunts for 3 full minutes instead of the usual 1.5. Most of the time you identify a Spirit by eliminating everything else.

How to Confirm

The incense test: start your timer the moment you make contact with the smudge, not when the hunt ends. Less than 3 minutes to next hunt = not a Spirit. Do the test at least twice since passive ghosts can skew results, a Thaye once went 10 minutes without hunting after a smudge. The more tests, the more confidence.

Watch Out For

Cursed hunts bypass hunt suppression entirely. Never use cursed-hunt timing when running the Spirit test, it'll give you a false negative.

💡 Tip

If nothing weird is happening and the evidence points nowhere exciting, it might just be a Spirit. Sometimes the answer really is that boring.

Thaye
DOTSWRTORB
AGGRESSOR

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hunts at 75% sanity early on, one of the highest thresholds in the game. Starts at 2.75m/s and slows all the way to 1m/s as it ages. Aging only happens while players are actually in the favourite room, so it won't passively slow down. Age changes roughly every 1-2 minutes. The opposite of Moroi, gets safer the longer you stay.

How to Confirm

Ouija board test: ask the ghost its age early in the contract, then ask again after spending time in the favourite room. Age changes = 100% confirmed Thaye. Compare early aggression and speed to later behavior, a consistent downtrend with time spent in the room is the tell.

Watch Out For

Players naturally play safer as a contract progresses. Use objective speed and event frequency to measure the change, not just how dangerous it feels.

💡 Tip

Thaye is most dangerous in the first few minutes. Do not rush the ghost room unprepared early on, wait it out and let it age a bit first.

The Mimic
UVFRZSB+ORB
DECEPTIVE

Behavior & Unique Ability

Copies the abilities of other ghosts and swaps what it's mimicking every 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Speed changes to match whatever ghost it's currently copying. ALWAYS shows Ghost Orbs as fake evidence, on a 3-evidence game it technically shows 4, on Nightmare it shows 3, on Insanity it shows 2, and on no-evidence it still shows orbs. Cannot mimic actual evidence though, find Ghost Writing, EMF 5, or DOTS and you can rule Mimic out immediately.

How to Confirm

Orbs plus UV plus Freezing plus Spirit Box = strong Mimic signal. If ghost behavior keeps shifting, acting like a Demon one hunt, a Yurei the next, that inconsistency is the tell. Same behavior through two full hunts means it's probably not a Mimic. Also can't copy Goryo's camera-only DOTS trick since it doesn't have DOTS as evidence.

Watch Out For

Mimic orbs are bonus false evidence, not real evidence. Seeing orbs does not mean you have an Orb ghost. It might just be a Mimic doing its thing.

💡 Tip

The ultimate troll ghost. Behavior that doesn't match any single ghost profile, especially if it seems to change over the course of the contract, should always have you thinking Mimic.

The Twins
EMF 5FRZSB
SPECIALIZED

Behavior & Unique Ability

Think of it as one ghost with two interaction zones, not two actual entities. Can do two interactions simultaneously, painting flies in one room while a plate launches in another. Speeds vary: slower twin at 1.5m/s, faster twin at 1.87m/s. Each hunt is a 50/50 which twin spawns, either at its current location or where it last did a large-radius interaction. Sharp frequent spikes on the activity monitor are a good indicator.

How to Confirm

Motion sensors in adjacent rooms, Twins can trigger both within seconds of each other. Interactions at normal range (2m small / 4m medium-large) AND large range (8m small / 16m medium-large) happening at the same time is the real giveaway. Hunt speed varying noticeably across different hunts is also supporting evidence.

Watch Out For

Poltergeist multi-throws feel like multiple sources but come from the same spot. Twins activity comes from genuinely different areas of the map. Location matters here.

💡 Tip

Speed difference between the two twins is subtle, 1.5m/s versus 1.87m/s is hard to feel. Don't rely on speed alone to call it. The simultaneous multi-room interactions are a much cleaner tell.

Wraith

Behavior & Unique Ability

Never steps in salt, always, not sometimes. Can also teleport directly to any player, skipping all roaming steps entirely. Only ghost with this teleport ability. When it teleports it generates EMF 2 or 5 with no visible interaction in the room. Don't confuse this with Banshee or Phantom wandering, those ghosts physically walk toward you and leave a trail. Wraith just skips straight to you.

How to Confirm

Salt at entrances plus a motion sensor at the salt. Ghost passes through (sensor fires, no footprint) = confirmed Wraith. EMF reading appearing in a room with no visible interaction = possible teleport. Check the room for anything that could have caused it before calling it.

Watch Out For

Pathing RNG can make any ghost miss salt. Use long Tier II/III lines laid across tight doorways so there's genuinely no way around them.

💡 Tip

Wraith's salt immunity is permanent, unlike Gallu which only ignores salt when Enraged. If it's consistently avoiding salt across multiple passes, it's Wraith. If it's intermittent, think Gallu.

Behavior & Unique Ability

Hates noise. Can hunt at 80% sanity if players are talking in the same room, way higher than the standard 50-55%. During hunts though, its detection range drops to just 2.5m. Basically blind and deaf unless you're practically standing on top of it, which is why players call it the "dumb ghost."

How to Confirm

During a hunt, hide more than 2.5m away with a torch or radio on. If it doesn't track you despite the active electronics, run that test a few times, consistent non-detection at that range is a strong Yokai lean. Talking near the ghost room and noticing hunt pressure spike is the other route.

Watch Out For

Spirit Box and voice recognition auto-pings count as talking. Run your talking test carefully so you know what triggered what.

💡 Tip

Shut up near a Yokai. Seriously. Voice chat in or near the ghost room is how you get hunted at 80% sanity and wonder what happened.

Behavior & Unique Ability

The only ghost that can interact with the front door of the house outside of a hunt or event. Front door closes on its own mid-contract? That's a Yurei, confirmed, no further evidence needed. Also the only ghost interaction that can drain sanity by 50% in one shot, when it fully closes a door while you're nearby, you feel it. Can't partially open or close doors either, only fully open or fully shut. A door creaking halfway means you can instantly rule Yurei out.

How to Confirm

Front door slamming shut outside of a hunt or event = instant confirm. Set up a camera on the front door and watch from the truck if you want to catch it cleanly. Incense traps it in its favourite room for 1 minute 30 seconds, which is longer than most ghosts, useful for safe evidence gathering.

Watch Out For

Other ghosts fully close doors too, Yurei is just the only one that does it outside of hunts and events, and it's the only door interaction it ever does. One slam means nothing. The front door interaction is what seals it.

💡 Tip

Yurei is one of the best ghosts to incense-trap. Lock it down in the favourite room for 90 seconds and gather evidence in peace. Can get confused with Demon due to heavy sanity drain, but the door behavior tells them apart.

Pro Tips & Tricks

Electronics Kill

Active electronics within 7.5m attract the ghost during hunts. Turn everything off when hiding. Yokai only has 2.5m photo camera attraction.

EMF 5 = 33% Chance

Each EMF 2-3 event only has a 33% shot at showing EMF 5 for evidence ghosts. Check interactions fast and often and don't rule it out too early.

Freezing Threshold

Non-freezing ghosts bottom out at ~1°C. Freezing ghosts reach −10°C. Confirm only below 1°C. Tier I: wait for below 0°C due to ±3°C fluctuation.

The Mimic's Orb Trick

Mimic ALWAYS shows Ghost Orbs as extra false evidence, even at 0 evidence settings. Orbs + SB + Freezing + UV = strongly suspect Mimic.

Incense Timing

Standard no-hunt window is 90s. Spirit gets 180s. Demon only 60s. Time your incense carefully. This is one of the most reliable behavioral confirms in the game.

Salt Strategy

Don't scatter randomly. Create unavoidable lines in doorways with Tier II/III. Confirm traversal with motion sensors. Pristine salt = Wraith or enraged Gallu.

UV Print Window

Prints last 2 min (1 min on Insanity). Right after a hunt ends, immediately scan every door and switch. Hunts generate a lot of touches and speed matters here.

D.O.T.S Camera Trick

Goryo only shows D.O.T.S on camera, not in-person. Always set up video camera watching projector and check from truck. Night vision helps dramatically.

Sanity Math

Know your med restore by difficulty (40/35/30/25/20%). Track it on the truck monitor. That tells you whether hunts are starting early, which is key for Demon, Shade, and Yokai calls.

Cursed Hollow 2026

Event runs through Apr 21. Lucky Forest Minions decrease ghost speed 10% (stackable!). Need minimum x1.00 difficulty for event points.

Room First, Always

CONFIRM favourite room before behavioral tests. Use temp decay + interaction clustering. Bad room ID invalidates everything. Orbs spawn in favourite room.

Hiding 101

Break LoS, kill your electronics, and shut up (especially near a Yokai). Revenant will crawl if it can't see you. Deogen always knows where you are, so loop furniture instead of trying to hide.
